Vox's image (etc) handling paradigm is quite nice, but too lightweight on a few counts for my needs.
- Inability to re-order items in collections (galleries) - combined with displaying in reverse uploaded order. Uploaded order tends to be chronological, which is also how I'd like them displayed thank you. [Update: figured out a trick to make the uploader work in reverse order. Doesn't negate the original point.]
- Inability to nest collections
- Inability to select position of thumbnail, which is a square crop through the middle of the photo with a tendancy to chop peoples heads off. Interestingly if you include a link to a collection in a post it uses the full (rectangular) image to make a thumbnail.
This is a long line of text to see if editing in Firefox has the same quirks as editing in Opera. I notice that the toolbar seems to have more options on it - there isn't a raw html option though. Vox doesn't have mood/music/location options - although those aren't essential. Can't get away from the ads over here, but the mental filter works just fine.
Vox appears to be six-aparts blog offering now that they have offloaded LJ. It has a useful feature for cross-posting to your journals on other services, which is what I am testing now.
It also appears to be completely free (if in beta) with unlimited storage for video/images (but a 2Gb monthly upload limit). The WYSIWYG editor seems a bit quirky, but that could be an Opera compatibility problem.
I managed to get plain old marsden as my user name :) (http://marsden.vox.com)
Negatives - they suck you in by requiring you to sign up before you can comment - even on public posts.
End Test, more to come at a later date.
